I don't know why but ZEC2 has resigned again. I have confirmed the
resignation but not the reason. Steve has completely left FidoNet
this time and rumor has it Zone 2 is beginning a ZEC election over
there. It's only a rumor [the election, that is] because FidoNews is
often the last to know. [sigh]

The holiday season is about to come upon us all again. If you have
any happy items to uplift the FidoNet world, don't hesitate to send
them in. I'll be publishing them as the various holidays come up. No
doubt there are several hundred versions of the Night Before Christmas
parodies that make the rounds every year. It wouldn't be right if we
didn't annoy everyone anew each season. [snicker]

Did you know that YOU could contribute a weekly column [.COL] to this
august publication? Just pick a subject, area, or theme and send 'em
     over!

Do you think FidoNet has too MANY rules and too many sealawyers
nitpicking them? Send your letters to the Editor [.LET].

File request ARTSPEC [ARTSPEC.DOC or ARTSPEC.ZIP] from this system or
download it from any ZC or RC or from various webpages listed in the
Masthead for details on formatting your article for FidoNews.

The FidoNet World Wide Webring is growing by leaps and bounds the past
couple weeks. We now have over 50 sites linked together in the ring.

     --- Following message extracted from NETMAIL @ 1:18/14 ---

     From: charles.sumner@juno.com (Charles Sumner)

     ---

The Fidonet echo called Church&State is on the Backbone and available
to Fidonet nodes without extra charge.

This is a topic which has increasing importance because of the
political activity of the Religious Right. The relationship between
church and state may be one of the most significant issues of the
decade. Some authorities claim that nearly half of the state
Republican organizations are now controlled by the Christian
     Coalition.

There is much debate about whether the First Amendment needs to be
revised. Are Christians actually being "persecuted" in the United
States today? Or are Christians expecting too much when they want to
post the Ten Commandments in government buildings and schools? Will
our nation abandon the principle of "no tax for religion" and provide
funding for religious schools? Would government control follow?

Should government welfare funds be distributed through sectarian
institutions without restricting proselyting? What would a "parental
rights" bill accomplish? Are people of some minority religions unfit
to hold public office? Should schools allow students to decide on a
majority basis whether prayers are said at graduation? What happens
to the rights of the minority then - are they ostracized?

There are many more issues which come under the topic. They involve
both religious liberty and establishments of religion.

Church&State is a moderated echo, and participants are requested to
avoid lengthy theological discussions and stick to the relationships
which should exist between religious groups and government.

Please help provide an opportunity for people to air discussion on
such significant issues. Obtain CHURCH&STATE and mention it to users.

     Thanks.

     You have just been hugged!!
That's right, there's no getting out of it this time!!
This is the start of a full-scale Hug O' War!
     So hug everyone you know!!!
Hug your friends, your enemies, everyone!!
With all the other forwards out there,
I thought this would be a good one to start.
It can mean so much, and many things at the same time.
It can be a sign of love, friendship, comfort or anything.
So here you go. It should brighten someone's day.
I mean, we all need a hug once in awhile.
So send this on if you'd like, to anyone who may need a hug,
Goodness knows, we could all REALLY use a hug sometimes.
So send this on and show someone you care!!

TOP TEN THINGS OVERHEARD FROM THE IE 4.0 LAUNCH TEAM

Those Microsoft developers sure love to talk. Here are the top ten
quotes from our secret sources deep inside the Microsoft browser
development team. Of course, they'll deny every one...

     10. "Yeah, we'll remove PointCast and AOL support in the *next*
         version."

     9. "Let's make it really, really big!"

     8. "Put me down for ten bucks that marketing changes the name of DNA
         and COM+ within three months."

     7. "OK, how much slower should the Mac version be?"

     6. "Do you think we can bundle Office with the browser?"

     5. "The great thing about Active Desktop is that the user will never
know that we're sending their system configurations back to
         Redmond!"

     4. "Let's put this new Java extension in just to see what Sun does."

     3. "Come on, you know Bill's not gonna be happy with only 95 percent
         of the market."

     2. "No, I don't think 700 push channels is too many. Do you?"

     1. "Oh, forget the DOJ--they're a bunch of wimps!"
