FIDONET REGIONAL NEWS

Region 13 Coordinator Election - Candidate Background and Plans.

I Michael Luko am running as a candidate for the Regional
Coordinator position for Region 13. Here is some info about my
background as well as plans and actions that I will perform if
elected to the RC13 position.

Background:
Been a member BBS in fidonet since April of 1997.
Took over as NC for Net 266 June of 2005.
Cleaned up Net 266's node list segment.
Assisted with the regionalization process in 1996.
Expanded Net 266 to include all of New Jersey and Delaware.
Assisted the current RC13 with various tasks as asked and needed.
Function as a regional POTS netmail gate for systems that need it.
Provide echomail feeds for those who need a feed.
Help new sysops with getting their system setup and promote growth.
Duties performed if elected as RC13:
1. Provide NC's with any help the may need or request.
2. Let NC's handle their network matters unless asked to become
involved.
3. Promote growth to the region by directing potential BBSs to
their Networks within our region.
4. Provide Fido Nodelist's Nodediff's and Fidonews to any node
that request it.
5. Maintain the Independent node list segment and process
Network segments, sending the regions segment to the Zone
Coordinator.
6. Ensure smooth operation of the region and the networks that
make up the region as per policy 4.
7. Act as Temporary NC for a network that is without one,
and rise up a suitable NC from within that network.
8. Provide Netmail routing for the region.
9. Maintain contact with NC's within the region and the ZC1.
10. Webmaster and host the Region 13 website.
11. Appoint and support the election coordinator.
12. Perform all other specific RC duties policy4 mandates.
13. Will abide by the terms and conditions of approved regional
policy, so that it can be maintained in perpetuity for the
benefit of the members of the region as stated in section 6
in the R13 election policy.

Action Plan:
1. Establish a direct connection with each NC for netmail and
segments.
2. Change my nodelist processor to accept net segments and
independent segment, making the uplink the ZC1. I am Working
on this now so I would just have to copy some files and make
some quick tweaks later.
3. Find out the pool of network numbers assigned to our region
from the ZC.
4. Ask Net 266 if they would want an alternate NC from within
the net or if they are ok with me performing dual RC/NC roles.
At the moment four of the six nodes got back to me and said
there is no problem with me acting in the NC and RC roles.
5. Obtain and file a copy of any Network policies. As stated
before the network if free to operate as they wish within
Policy 4. I just would like to be aware of such policies should
a need arise. IE should something happen to the NC and I would
need to fill in.
6. Find out from each NC what their current geographical boundary
covers.
7. Map out region with the info gathered. Try to get areas not
covered within an existing net covered, by asking bordering
NC's to possibly expand their area.
8. Seek out BBSes that are with in our region and invite them to
be part of fidonet and link them up with the NC that covers
their location. Or as an independent if the area is not
covered.
9. Plan to appoint Robert Wolfe as Election coordinator if he so
chooses to stay on during my term.

or a feed to the region 13 election or sysop echoes let me know and
I will get you connected personally or put you in touch with an
alternate feed. Thanks for taking the time to read though. If you

How to Submit an Article
If you wish to submit an article for inclusion in the Fidonews, here
are some guidelines, if you send it as an attached file; the preferred
method if you want reasonable control over how the published article
will appear in the Fidonews:
a) Plain ASCII text. If you could type it on your keyboard, it's
probably quite OK. No line may be longer than 70 characters.
b) Put a title to the article. Put the title in two times. The first
time, on the first line, with an * before it. The second time, on
the second line, without the * and centered. This will help in the
format since the title with the * is removed and used in the index,
the second line will become the headline. On the third line, put
your name and FidoNet address, present or former. If former, you
may want to add some other address where you can be reached for
personal comments.
c) Deadline for article submission is Sunday, 22:00 UTC.
Help the Editor by following the above guides. Below are some subjects
and the file extension for the article as set in the configuration
file for the making of the Fidonews. Please help by putting the file
extension of the correct subject on the file name if known.

If you don't know or are not sure, send the article anyway. Put a .TXT
on it and I'll try to figure out where it should be in the Fidonews.
If you follow these simple guidelines, there should be little problem
in getting your article published. If your submission is too far out
of specs for the Fidonews, it will be returned to you and/or a message
sent informing you of the problem. This DOES NOT mean that your
article is not accepted. It means that there is something in it that I
can not fix and I need your help on it.
