FOOD FOR THOUGHT
=================================================================
Every time that we try to lift a problem from our own shoulders, and
shift that problem to the hands of the government, to the same extent
we are sacrificing the liberties of our people.

GENERAL ARTICLES

Announcing the Electronic PUblishing FIle DIstribution network
Richard WEbb, 1:116/901
A few weeks ago I was working to get the ham radio file distribution
network reactivated and my uplink graciously agreed to be the FDN
coordinator. I happened to mention to him and a couple of other folks
that I wished somebody would reactivate ep-mag and the old ep-ascii
areas.
ep-ascii had been dead for a long time but still was in some folks'
configuration files as an available file area. I got to looking into
it and it was suggested to me that I take the position of FDN
coordinator.
AT first I balked at this as I'm a pots only system, but then it was
explained to me how it could work quite well.
So, at this point the EP-FDN is once again active. THere are three
file areas sysops may want to make available for users and a back
channel area. THe three that users may find of interest are:
EP-ADM EP-FDN administrative files.
Ep-MAG electronically published magazines and periodicals
EP-BOOK electronically produced books.
FOr sysops, the area EP-2HQ is available for sending files to the
coordinator for distribution. FILes must be screened before release
to make certain we're not violating copyright laws as well as make
certain the files released meet the requirements of the Filegate
project.
IF you regularly come across electronic books and periodicals we'd be
interested in hearing from you. Before submitting files for
distribution have a look at the fdn policy and the submission
guidelines available in area EP-ADM.
THe file area EP-ADM will also contain information on soliciting
publishers for permission to distribute electronic works and other
files of interest to those who distribute and carry the Electronic
Publishing file distribution network. ON the first day of each
calendar month a list will be released in each EP-FDN file echo
detailing what files were hatched during the previous calendar month.
System operators carrying eP-FDN are encouraged to acquire and make
available all files in the EP_ADM file echo so as to assist those
wishing to submit files as well as publishers who might be considering
allowing this type of distribution for their works.
FIDONEWS 24-43 Page 3 22 Oct 2007
The EP-FDN is distributed by the INternational FIlegate PRoject. FOr

Richard

New Location for the Region 19 Site
By Frank Vest
Jeff Schrunk informed me that he would be closing his server in the
not to distant future. This left me seeking a new host for my domain
and put the Region 19 site in jeopardy as well. I can't complain about
the hosting Jeff provided and I wish him well.
Since my new hosting allows a fair number of sub domains, I have
moved the Region 19 site to:
At least it now has a sub domain instead of just a directory on a
site.
For those that might have links to the old address, please make
corrections to your links.
For those that are curious, nothing much has changed on the site
except for the URL.
Regards,
Frank Vest, Collin County Station

FIDONEWS INFORMATION
=================================================================
How to Submit an Article
If you wish to submit an article for inclusion in the Fidonews, here
are some guidelines, if you send it as an attached file; the preferred
method if you want reasonable control over how the published article
will appear in the Fidonews:
a) Plain ASCII text. If you could type it on your keyboard, it's
probably quite OK. No line may be longer than 70 characters.
b) Put a title to the article. Put the title in two times. The first
time, on the first line, with an * before it. The second time, on
the second line, without the * and centered. This will help in the
format since the title with the * is removed and used in the index,
the second line will become the headline. On the third line, put
your name and FidoNet address, present or former. If former, you
may want to add some other address where you can be reached for
personal comments.
c) Deadline for article submission is Sunday, 22:00 UTC.
Help the Editor by following the above guides. Below are some subjects
and the file extension for the article as set in the configuration
file for the making of the Fidonews. Please help by putting the file
extension of the correct subject on the file name if known.
Ideas for Subject areas:
Subject File | Subject File

If you don't know or are not sure, send the article anyway. Put a .TXT
on it and I'll try to figure out where it should be in the Fidonews.
If you follow these simple guidelines, there should be little problem
in getting your article published. If your submission is too far out
of specs for the Fidonews, it will be returned to you and/or a message
sent informing you of the problem. This DOES NOT mean that your
article is not accepted. It means that there is something in it that I
can not fix and I need your help on it.

Send articles via e-mail or netmail, file attach or message to:

IMPORTANT! If you send the article via e-mail, make sure you put the
word "fidonews" somewhere in the subject line! That way it
will always pass the spam filter, ending up in the proper
folder.
Please include a message, telling me that you have sent an article.
That way I will know to look for it.
