The Fidonews at a Glance
It seems like last week's drought may have been caused by a couple of
contributions getting lost on their way; more about this next week,
when I've caught up with all the pending mail after the holiday
vacation.
At least a bunch arrived properly this week, all of them from good
ol' Warren Bonner. But first out is day 14 of the "2002 Off Centre
Rally - The Big U" travel report, in the general articles section.
The four contributions from Warren starts with one for his own
column, called "Cherokee Teaching". A little story about native
American wisdom.
Then two for the jokes section. The first is "State Fair" about a
man and his wife that seem to have some disagreement over how well the
husband performs his matrimonial duties. The second is about another
(or maybe the same) man, who has to prepare for the burial of his
"Mother-in-Law".
Finally one for the classified ads, "My Web Page".

2002 Off Centre Rally - The Big U
Submitted by David Drummond, 3:640/305
Day 14 - Saturday 16th August (Mackay to The Causeway)
Had a leisurely breakfast with Tony and Michelle, then took our leave
and headed for Sarina. At Sarina, we took the Clermont Road. This
took us over a mountain range with some great twisties. I'd forgotten
how to go around corners! It didn't take me long to get back into the
hang of it, and get a bit of wear on the edge of my tyres for a
change.
The road followed the railway line for quite some time, until we
turned off to follow the old Highway No 1 down to Marlborough. Parts
of it were straight, bumpy and fairly desolate, by coastal standards,
but with the traffic almost non-existent, it was quite a pleasant
ride.
Just as we were coming towards Marlborough, it started to rain - just
a light shower. We stopped for fuel and lunch, and another
motorcyclist and pillion travelling north said they had been riding
through a bit of rain.
Fortunately, the rain stopped while we were stopped, and as we
continued south, remained dry. Just before Rockhampton, we turned off
to Yeppoon and Emu Park. My maternal grandmother's family came from
that area, and I had a yen to stay there. Unfortunately, the caravan
park at Emu Park looked full, and not particularly inviting, so we
backtracked to an area called The Causeway and stayed in a Tourist
Park there, with a resident emu wandering around.
Went for a walk along the beach, collected some shells including a
couple of cowries, my favourite, then after a shower, walked over the
bridge to the place that reputedly did the best fish and chips ... And
they were as good (if not better) than we were led to believe. We
even lashed out and had an icecream each for dessert. Lovely.

OL'WDB'S COLUMN - WARREN BONNER
=================================================================
Cherokee Teaching
wdbonner@pacbell.net
An old Cherokee Chief is teaching his grandson about life. "A fight is
going on inside me"; he said to the boy." It is a terrible fight and
it is between two wolves.
One is evil - he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance,
self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride,
superiority, and ego.
The other is good - he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility,
kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and
faith.
This same fight is going on inside you - and inside every other
person too", the grandfather told him.
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his
grandfather, "Which wolf will win?"
The old Cherokee Chief simply replied, "The one you feed."
Moral: Think before you reply to some echo messages.
Happy, fun, prosperous and healthy New Year to all!
Ol'wdb

CLEAN HUMOUR & JOKES

State Fair
By Warren Bonner
wdbonner@pacbell.net
A man takes his wife to the State Fair and one of the exhibits is
that of breeding bulls. They come up to the first pen and there is a
sign that says "This Bull mated 50 times last year."
The wife pokes her husband in the ribs and says, "He mated 50 times
last year."
They walked a little further and see another pen with a sign that
says, "This Bull mated 120 times last year."
The wife hits her husband and says "That's more than twice a week!
You could learn a lot from him."
They walk further and a third pen has a Bull with a sign saying "This
Bull mated 365 times last year."
The wife gets really excited and says "That's once a day. You could
REALLY learn something from this one."
The husband looks at her and says .... "Go up and ask him if it was
with the same cow."
After nine surgeries and two years of therapy, the husband is now
able to talk. It is hoped that someday he will walk again...

Mother-in-Law
By Warren Bonner
wdbonner@pacbell.net
George went on a vacation to the Middle East with most of his family
including his mother-in-law. During their vacation and while they
were visiting Jerusalem George's mother-in-law died. With the death
certificate in hand, George went to the American Consulate Office to
make arrangements to send the body back to the States for proper
burial.
The Consul, after hearing of the death of the mother-in-law told
George that the sending of a body back to the States for burial is
very, very expensive. It could cost as much as $5,000.00.
The Consul continues, in most cases the person responsible for the
remains normally decides to bury the body here. This would only cost
$150.00.
George thinks for some time and answers, "I don't care how much it
will cost to send the body back; that's what I want to do."
The Consul, after hearing this, says "You must have loved your
mother-in-law very much considering the difference in price."
"No, it's not that," says George. "You see, I know of a case many
years ago of a Person that was buried here in Jerusalem. On the third
day He arose from the dead.... I just can't take that chance."

FIDONEWS INFORMATION
=================================================================
How to Submit an Article
If you wish to submit an article for inclusion in the Fidonews, here
are some guidelines, if you send it as an attached file; the preferred
method if you want reasonable control over how the published article
will appear in the Fidonews:
a) Plain ASCII text. If you could type it on your keyboard, it's
probably quite OK...
b) Put a title to the article. Put the title in two times. The first
time, on the first line, with an * before it. The second time, on
the second line, without the * and centered. This will help in the
format since the title with the * is removed and used in the index,
the second line will become the headline. On the third line, put
your name and FidoNet address, present or former. If former, you
may want to add some other address where you can be reached for
personal comments.
c) Deadline for article submission is Sunday, 12:00 UTC.
Help the Editor by following the above guides. Below are some subjects
and the file extension for the article as set in the configuration
file for the making of the Fidonews. Please help by putting the file
extension of the correct subject on the file name if known..
Ideas for Subject areas:

If you don't know or are not sure, send the article anyway. Put a .TXT
on it and I'll try to figure out where it should be in the Fidonews.
If you follow these simple guidelines, there should be little problem
in getting your article published. If your submission is too far out
of specs for the Fidonews, it will be returned to you and/or a message
sent informing you of the problem. This DOES NOT mean that your
article is not accepted. It means that there is something in it that I
can not fix and I need your help on it.
